Salmonella can cause illness in pets that consume affected products and may also pose a health risk to people who handle the contaminated food,the U.S.Food and Drug Administration stated in announcing an urgent recall for products manufactured by Foodynamics and Raw Bistro Pet Fare.
Foodynamics,based in Wisconsin,is voluntarily recalling certain lots of freeze-dried pet treats sold under the brands Raw Dog Barkery,BellePepper Cats,Kanu Pets,and What’s In the Bowl.The recalled items were distributed within Wisconsin as well as to New York and Florida.

What’s in the Bowl Whole Chicken Hearts–lot number 030527
BellePepper Cats Freeze Dried Chicken Heart Slices–marked on the back with the“Use By”date 031627
Kanu Pets Freeze Dried Chicken Heart Raw treats–lot number 031627
BellePepper Cats also distributed samples of the possibly contaminated freeze-dried treats to two pet owners and has since reached out to those customers.
The company has notified all affected customers,who can return the products to where they were purchased for a full refund.
Minnesota-based Raw Bistro Pet Fare is also recalling two of its frozen beef dog food formulas:
3‑pound bags of Raw Bistro Dog Fare Grass‑Fed Beef Entrée
18‑pound cases of Raw Bistro Dog Fare Grass‑Fed Beef Entrée
Both products carry lot number 239.

These items were sold frozen in sealed packaging between September 1 and September 17 in stores located in California,Colorado,Illinois,and Minnesota.
As of the recall announcements issued on October 9 and 10,neither company has received any reports of illness in pets or humans linked to the recalled products.
The FDA advises anyone in possession of the recalled pet food to discard it securely in a closed container where it cannot be accessed by other animals or people.
Salmonella infection in pets can lead to lethargy,diarrhea,fever,and vomiting,while milder cases may involve reduced appetite,fever,and abdominal discomfort.Infected animals can also transmit the bacteria to humans or other animals.
