You can spot him everywhere around Bondi:resting on the counter at a local bottle shop, wandering up and down the aisles at the nearby Woolworths,or even letting himself into people’s apartments uninvited. This ginger-and-white cat has turned into a familiar face for everyone in the neighborhood.

Named Bentley, this adventurous feline just can’t stay still, and he shows up all the time on the Bondi Local Loop Facebook group. For people living in Sydney,it’s always a surprise to find him curled up on a soft spot in their home—some are confused, while others are delighted by his unexpected visit.
According to his owner Elaine Moynan,Bentley was born to explore. She has tried everything to keep him indoors, but he simply refuses to stay put.“I’ve tried to keep him inside, but there’s just no way to stop him,”she explained.
The Moynan family took Bentley in when he was only six weeks old, about nine years ago.He was first found wandering around the apartment building where her boss’s daughter lived.Elaine had planned to raise him as an indoor cat,but everything changed when her three daughters took him out into the garden one day. After that,he never wanted to stay inside again.

People also call him the Blair Street cat, since that’s where his family lives. But his little journeys take him all over the area.“He just walks around wherever he wants,”Moynan said.“He even follows people on the street sometimes—I really think he’s half dog. He’s such a funny cat,and then he’ll come back home and lie on my youngest daughter’s bed like nothing happened.”
Bentley once went home with Harries, one of the lifeguards from Bondi Rescue. On another occasion,Elaine was at the gym when a stranger walked up to her.“This woman came over and told me‘Bentley’s at my house,’and her place was two kilometers away in Dover Heights,”she recalled.“When I walked in,there he was, sitting comfortably on her sofa. And from the big window, you could even see the Sydney Harbour Bridge.”
It’s safe to say Bentley never feels shy about making himself at home anywhere. One Facebook post read:“This cat wandered into BWS a while back and just won’t leave.Does anyone know who he belongs to?”Another local wrote:“We accidentally adopted someone’s cat tonight! He’s sitting on our armchair watching Ash Barty right now.”Someone else shared:“Found this big white cat right outside my door at 1:30 in the afternoon. He acts like he loves me,and now he’s asleep in the only sunny spot in my flat.”
In the comments under these posts, neighbors always laugh and point out that this friendly intruder is none other than Bentley.
Still, this bold cat has probably used up several of his nine lives already.A few years ago,Elaine—who works in IT—had lost all hope of seeing him again, after he went missing for months and never came home.
