When a woman brought home what she thought was a medium-sized shelter puppy, she soon discovered the truth:her new dog just kept getting bigger.
Jillian Schrader,32,from New Hampshire, adopted a puppy named Callie and has since captured widespread attention after revealing the surprising reality of her pup's true identity. In a viral clip posted on February 27 to her TikTok account, jillfacts,Schrader explained that she had recently adopted a dog whose appearance and curly coat initially led her to believe it was"some sort of doodle mix."
The term"doodle"refers to a cross between a poodle and another breed—like goldendoodles or Labradoodles—which have become incredibly trendy among pet owners, even though the American Kennel Club(AKC)does not officially recognize them. However,as the months passed,Schrader had to come to terms with the fact that her dog was not a doodle at all,but rather a purebred giant breed.

"We suspected she would be like 50 lbs,"Schrader told the camera before retrieving her dog to demonstrate just how large she had already become. Then, with visible effort due to the dog's massive frame,Schrader hoisted Callie into her arms and carried her toward the lens.Callie,at just seven months old,is already nearly as tall as Schrader—who stands at 5'8"and is by no means short—suggesting the puppy still has plenty of growing to do.
"This is a puppy,"Schrader said to the camera while holding the enormous dog.She then disclosed the results of a DNA test they had done on their supposed"doodle":Callie is in fact"100 percent giant schnauzer."She emphasized,"No doodle,no poodle,no little breed.100 percent giant schnauzer."
According to the AKC,giant schnauzers can reach up to 27 inches at the shoulder and weigh as much as 95 pounds—roughly twice what Callie's new owners had anticipated for her adult size. The breed is celebrated for its exceptional intelligence, loyalty, and trainability, which makes them wonderful companions and alert watchdogs when properly trained.
Schrader's video triggered a massive reaction online, racking up over a million views and nearly 200,000 likes. One user insisted,"I'd rather take the size and temperament of a giant schnauzer compared to a doodle any day!You won the lottery."Another commenter joked,"My parents had a giant schnauzer. He topped out around 120 lbs.Good luck,"while someone else called Callie"a great thrift find."
"Getting a giant schnauzer instead of a doodle is a MAJOR score,"another user agreed, with one noting that a giant schnauzer can be a"great family dog"but also"a great protector."
