College awards popular campus cat with honorary "doctor of litter-ature" degree

A cherished feline at a Vermont institution has been granted the honorary distinction of"doctor of litter-ature,"with the ceremony preceding student graduations this Saturday.Vermont State University's Castleton campus recognized Max the Cat not for rodent-hunting prowess or napping habits, but for his exceptional sociability."For years,Max has been a warm presence within the Castleton community,"the university noted in a Facebook announcement. The title includes entitlements to"catnip benefits, scratching post access, and litter box duties."

The adored tabby resides with his human family on the road leading to the campus's primary entryway."He naturally began mingling with students, who deeply appreciate him,"owner Ashley Dow shared Thursday.Over approximately four years,Max has socialized on campus, eliciting excitement among students who lift him for photos.Remarkably,he even accompanies prospective students on campus tours starting from a structure opposite his home."He intuitively joins them and trails along,"Dow observed.
