Commissioned by Mars Petcare and Calm and carried out by YouGov,the survey also found that 56%value their pets for offering silent companionship during tense moments. An overwhelming 84%reported feeling calmer simply by having their pet nearby.

“We often love our pets without fully recognizing how much they give back,”said Dr.Tammie King, senior research manager at the Waltham Petcare Science Institute.“Seeing your pet’s daily‘interruptions’as gentle prompts to pause, breathe, and be present can be a powerful wellness practice.Research indicates that physical interactions with pets can increase oxytocin levels in people.”

The results highlight how pets encourage small but meaningful wellness habits in daily life.Nearly eight in ten respondents said their pet reminds them to take breaks from work or chores—half experience this daily.Additionally,73%shared that their pet helps them stop overthinking and motivates them to go outside, while 77%said their pet encourages time away from screens.
