Pet owners across Australia are being urged to stay careful and watchful as tick season draws near. The warmer weather across the country creates perfect conditions for the dangerous paralysis tick to multiply, and experts are predicting this spring and summer could be one of the worst periods on record.
Specialists from Pet Insurance Australia have stated that the combination of warm temperatures and high rainfall has created ideal conditions for what could become one of the most serious tick seasons in recent years.

“Paralysis ticks can be deadly if they are not treated quickly,”said Nadia Crighton,a representative from Pet Insurance Australia.
The Australian paralysis tick is a harmful parasite that can lead to serious illness or even death in both dogs and cats.Reports from veterinary clinics all over Sydney already show that cases of tick paralysis have gone up compared with last year, especially in regions close to the coast or bushland, including the Blue Mountains,Terrey Hills and Turramurra.
Spring also brings a high risk of ticks in popular areas like Sydney’s Northern Beaches.
“This is the moment for pet owners to take steps and make sure their animals are protected,”Crighton continued.“Tick activity is expected to rise sharply over the coming months.”

Figures from PetSure show that in serious tick‑related cases, treatment costs can reach as high as$24,000 for dogs and around$5,000 for cats.
Crighton recommended that owners use reliable tick prevention products, including special collars, topical treatments and chewable tablets,to protect their pets. She also suggested avoiding high‑risk locations such as bushy areas and long grass, and reminded owners to check their pets carefully for ticks every single day.
“Preventing ticks is not just a choice–it is essential during this risky time.We strongly encourage every pet owner to take action before it’s too late,”she said.
